Michelle Wie's 2016 is off to a buzzworthy start. Kicking off her season at this week's Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic, Wie was apparently stung by a bee on the course.
The 26-year-old is allergic to bee stings. (See this New York Times article from 2005, in which she recounts another tournament when she was stung: "My hand swelled up so big it couldn't fit my glove.") Others may remember her professional debut over a decade ago, in which she hit a ball into a bush that was filled with bees and wound up calling for an official to avoid it.
This time around, Wie was able to pull the stinger out of her right palm with a tweezers and continue playing.
Gosh. @themichellewie just got stung by a bee. Stinger stuck in her hand. And she's allergic. It's always something!— Beth Ann Nichols (@GolfweekNichols) January 28, 2016
Wie back in action, pulled out bee stinger on 16 tee, hits tee shot into left rough. By the way, she's even thru 6 holes.— Randall Mell (@RandallMellGC) January 28, 2016
