After nine years, Bubba Watson is finally coming back to Pebble Beach to compete, and the reason might surprise you.

Watson has long shunned the AT&T -- the last time he played in it was 2007 -- but his friend, actor Mark Wahlberg, has convinced him to give it a go. The two will play together as partners in the Pro-Am on Feb. 11-14, with Wahlberg in the celebrity field. Just last month Wahlberg and Watson posted a photo from their day at the golf course on Twitter.

"Mark and Bubba are buddies. Mark drew Bubba back," tournament director Steve John told the SF Gate.

Watson has had just two career starts in the AT&T, and neither went particularly well: in 2006, he missed the cut. A year later, he tied for 44th.
