Tour & News Podcast: Breaking Down Fantasy Golf

Ian Poulter in Danger of Missing Ryder Cup
Ian Poulter is scrambling to qualify for European Tour events so that he can retain his membership card and therefore, remain eligible for the 2016 Ryder Cup.

This week’s podcast features the ever growing and increasingly contested world of fantasy golf. Host Alan Bastable discusses the industry given recent investigations surrounding fantasy sports leaders DraftKings and FanDuel.

Bastable is joined by Fantasy Golf Insider’s Zach Turcotte, Sports Illustrated legal expert Michael McCann and assistant editor Sean Zak.

A veteran of the industry, Turcotte lays out the process by which daily fantasy players can be successful, even without avidly following the PGA Tour. Before that, though, McCann notes the troubling press received by DraftKings and FanDuel “isn’t going away anytime soon.” He lays out the basic legalities of daily fantasy sports in regards to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), a topic generating plenty of discussion across the nation.

“Fantasy sports generally are allowed,” he says. “That all could change if Congress holds a hearing and passes a different law…all it takes is a couple of bad hearings and the fantasy sports industry could be in some trouble.”
