Derek Jeter Hustles President Obama on the Golf Course

President Obama’s golf exploits have often existed as conservative fodder during his tenure as president, but lately they have put a dent in his wallet.

According to a report from Politico, Obama was in Las Vegas Monday night for a Democratic Party fundraiser when he discussed losing a match to Las Vegas Sun editor/publisher Brian Greenspun and legendary New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.

“[Greenspun] and Derek Jeter stole money from me at Shadow Creek,” Obama said of a round back in November 2014. “It was clearly a set up, because when we got to the practice range, he was shanking balls everywhere. I said, ‘You play golf Derek?’ And he said, ‘I just started two weeks ago.’”

Apparently Obama gave Jeter 30 strokes and quickly found out that was a mistake.

“We had to take a picture of me handing Derek Jeter money at the end of the game," Obama said.

This bet was likely a bit more than the $3 bet Obama lost to state representatives Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.) and John Yarmuth (D-Ky) earlier this summer. That came just a few weeks before NBA MVP Steph Curry discussed the president’s trash-talking tendencies while on the course.

Obama’s golf has been widely publicized and criticized, and as his tenure comes to a close, final numbers are being tallied of his commitment to the sport. According to CNN’s “State of the Union” show, Obama has played approximately 247 rounds—or 1,100 hours—of golf during his time in office.
