Ryder Cup Standings: Qualifying for U.S., European Teams

Who Does Davis Love III Need on the Ryder Cup Team?
The PGA Championship shook up the Ryder Cup rankings, so our panel debates which players Captain Davis Love III should add to Team USA.

As the deadline to automatically qualify for the U.S. and European Ryder Cup teams draws closer, each tournament and point earned in the time leading up to the event will have major implications. Below are the current standings for the respective teams. The Ryder Cup is Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 at Hazeltine National in Chaska, Minnesota.

U.S. QUALIFYING: The Americans' top eight players at the conclusion of The Barclays on Aug. 28 automatically make the 12-person team. After that, captain Davis Love III will make three captains picks on Sept. 12, the day after the BMW Championship — the third of the four FedEx Cup tournaments — is scheduled to finish. His final captain's pick will be on Sept. 25 at the conclusion of the Tour Championship.

EUROPEAN QUALIFYING: After the conclusion of The Barclays on Aug. 28, the top four golfers on the European Points list automatically qualify for the team. The five golfers with the highest point totals on the Worlds Points list, not counting the four who already qualified on the European Points list, also earn spots to lock up nine of the 12 positions. European captain Darren Clarke will select his three captain's picks the week after The Barclays.

*Bold names would earn Ryder Cup spots if qualifying ended today. Updated Aug. 23. Note: The nine automatic picks for the European Ryder Cup team won't change, as no player will be able to earn enough points at The Barclays to knock a current player out of qualifying.
