The 143rd Open Championship will at Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) for the 12th time in history, with last tournament held there being in 2006.

That year, Tiger Woods finished off his second consecutive Open Championship with a two-shot win over Chris DiMarco. 

The last back-to-back Open champion was Padraig Harrington in 2007 and 2008.

Last year, Phil Mickelson made four birdies in the last six holes, scoring a three-shot victory over Henrik Stenson to secure his fifth major championship. It was third year in a row in which the British Open winner was 40 years or older.
