Tiger Woods found himself on the leaderboard after a surprising 3-under-par performance in the first round of the 2014 British Open. But to win his first major championship in more than six years, he’ll have to catch another former world No. 1.
Rory McIlroy leads the Open by a shot after a 6-under-par first round at Royal Liverpool, where he’s looking for his own first major win since 2012. Some familiar faces -- Woods, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, and Adam Scott -- are nipping at his heels.
The 143rd Open Championship is being held at Royal Liverpool -- also known as Hoylake -- for the 12th time in history, with last tournament held there being in 2006.
