Jordan Spieth was apparently a big fan of Donald Trump when he was 15 years old, or at least enough to call him "The Great Donald," even though he's not much of a magician.
On Wednesday, CBS Sports dug up a video of Spieth from the 2009 U.S. Junior Amateur at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. The video gives a brief recap of the tournament followed by an interview with Spieth, who won the championship match 4 and 3.
The reporter asked Spieth what Trump, the course's owner, said to him after his victory.
“He said, ‘Great playing, I’m proud of you, it was a pleasure to watch,’” Spieth said. “Coming from him, The Great Donald, it was great.”
The coverage of the boys' portion of the tournament begins at the 2:30 mark in the video below, and an interview with Spieth begins at 4:25. He talks about Trump, now a 2016 republican presidential candidate, at the 5:07 mark.
