That's a dumbass question, bro.
Doesn't quite have the same ring as Bryce Harper's admonishment to a Toronto reporter last summer, but Phil Mickelson's criticism of a recent question about the Masters elicited the same amount of joy.
During Wednesday's pro-am before the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Mickelson started chiding the Golf Channel's Steve Sands about a question regarding Julius Erving, Mickelson's playing partner during a pro-am earlier this year. That question had previously topped Mickelson's list of All-Time Dumb Questions From Reporters list, but was replaced on Wednesday.
The new No. 1? "So Phil, you looking forward to Augusta?"
Mickelson's analysis: "What kind of dumbass question is that?"
More well-researched questions for reporters to ask after Phil's second-round score of 79 could include: 1) How did you manage to four-putt from five feet on your way to a triple-bogey on No. 13 today? or 2) What will you do with your weekend after missing the cut?
His last stop before Augusta will be next week's Shell Houston Open. No word if Phil is looking forward to it or not. Could someone ask? (Tip of the hat to Yahoo's Shane Bacon for the video.)
