Phil Mickelson is the defending champion at Torrey Pines this week, right? Sorry, wrong. It just seems that way because Mickelson is getting so much attention for making his 2010 debut. Mark Lamport-Stokes of Reuters previews the Farmers Insurance Open, notable because he mentioned and actually talked to the real defending champ, Nick Watney, a blossoming star. Watney birdied three of the last six holes to edge out John Rollins last year.
Watney told Reuters: "This is the second time I've come back to a golf course where I've won before and it's nice to just remember shots and situations. It's a special thing."
Unrelated weather update: More rain is forecast Wednesday and Thursday at Torrey Pines, which is still soggy from last week's storms.
