Truth & Rumors: PGA Tour's Disney event in jeopardy

Next year’s PGA Tour visit to Disney will take place the weekend before Thanksgiving – or not at all.

That’s the scenario facing the tour’s longtime fall staple after the Mayakoba event announced new dates of Nov. 14-17. That’s one week after the McGladrey Classic at Sea Island, Ga., which follows the tour’s two-week swing through Asia.

Translation: The new fall start to the FedEx Cup wraparound schedule is running out of dates. And it only feeds growing speculation that the Disney event – which lost Children’s Miracle Network as its sponsor – might not get back to the table.

“Heck, when I got on tour this was a top tournament to come play,” said Jeff Maggert, the 1993 Disney champion. “Now there just seems to be a real up and down on strength of fields.”
