Tiger Woods fined for spitting on green in Dubai Desert Classic

Feb14-tiger-dubai_299x415Tiger Woods apologized via Twitter on Monday for spitting on the 12th green after missing a putt during the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday.
"The Euro Tour is right – it was inconsiderate to spit like that and I know better." Woods said on Twittter. "Just wasn’t thinking and want to say I’m sorry."
The European Tour will fine Tiger Woods an undisclosed sum for the incident.
In a statement, the European Tour said: "Tournament director Mike Stewart has reviewed the incident and feels there has been a breach of the Tour code of conduct and consequently Tiger Woods will be fined."
On the Sky Sports broadcast of the tournament, commentator Ewen Murray sharply criticized Woods for his behavior.
"It's disgusting what he's just done there," Murray said. "You look at his work ethic and he's a credit to the game and an inspiration to all of us who are trying to be professional golfers, but some parts of him are arrogant and petulant.
"Somebody has to come on the green and maybe putt over his spit — it doesn't get much lower than that," Murray said. (Video below)
Woods has spit on the course throughout his career. However, the PGA Tour does not publicly acknowledge violations of its code of conduct, much less fine amounts. Woods, who is also known for cursing after a bad shot, is said to be among the most fined players on Tour.
