Report: Tiger's agent nears deal to stay with IMG
If you think it must be great to carry Tiger Woods’s golf bag and collect 10 percent of his winnings, imagine how profitable it would be to review his business deals. That job belongs to IMG super-agent Mark Steinberg, who is expected to renew his contract with his firm of 16 years, according to Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal.
If Steinberg’s employment deal with IMG is consummated, as expected, the agency would retain one of the most powerful agents in sports. Steinberg oversees IMG Golf, which represents more than 100 male and female professional golfers, including Sergio Garcia, Vijay Singh, Padraig Harrington and Paula Creamer. It is not clear how Steinberg’s contract status would affect Woods, but, generally speaking, it is common for star athletes to choose the company that employs the agent with whom they have the strongest ties. The terms and duration of Woods’s contract with IMG are not publicly known.
