It was a day for sunscreen, bottled water and more sunscreen at the Stanford St. Jude Classic, where a pair of South Africans (Tim Clark and Trevor Immelman) have worked their way to the top of a crowded leader board. Clark shot a third-round, six-under-par 64 today and holds a two-shot lead over five players, including Immelman, who shot 67.
Temperatures hit the mid-90s, but the heat index (and lots of humidity) made it feel like a few degrees above 100. Every tee box had large ice coolers filled with sports drinks and water, but what the players really needed were extra golf shirts. There isn't a climacool/breatheright/cottonsilk blend on the planet that can shield these golfers' sweat stains. Tough way to prepare for the US Open.
