Kim's triple-double finish drops him out of contention
Looks like we'll have to postpone the coronation of Anthony Kim as the next big thing. Kim was in the thick of it at the Players for two and a half rounds, but Saturday afternoon's finish all but knocked him out of the tournament.
Kim, who won his first PGA Tour event at the Wachovia Championship last week, was five under par through 10 holes Saturday before making four straight bogeys. After a birdie at the 16th, there was hope, but then he took a trip on Route 66.
Kim dunked his tee shot in the lake on the island-green 17th, hit his next one onto the green above the hole and raced his first putt 12 feet past. He missed the next one, too, for a triple-bogey 6.
At the 18th, Kim pulled his drive into the lake and made a double-bogey 6. The 6-6 finish dropped him to three over par for the week and out of the top 30. (Photo: Mark Humphrey/AP)
