ROYAL MELBOURNE (EAST)#72 in the World
The Sandbelt sister to the more famous West boasts six holes that were utilized on the Composite course, the best of which, Nos. 3, 4, 17 and 18, comprised the finish. Alex Russell and Vern Morcom, who apprenticed under MacKenzie in his 1926 visit, laid out the East in 1932, but the differences in quality are subtle. The East may suffer from less dramatic terrain than its sibling, but its bunkering, green complexes and shot values are equally compelling.
