Ogilvy's slightly open clubface and unusual
change in posture during his downswing mandate
very active hands to square the clubface. Notice
how early the toe of his club points at the target
after impact. This release is perfect for Ogilvy's
mechanics, as it creates the additional clubhead
speed he desperately needs. The opposite release
is present in the body-oriented, anti-hands move
of players with strong grips and/or closed clubface
positions like Paul Azinger, David Duval, and Brett
Wetterich. Ogilvy's feet stay on the ground longer
than most, minimizing the body's participation
while maximizing the effect of the hands.
