Appleby and Vijay Singh were great in the four-ball matches, demolishing Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk on Friday and edging Steve Stricker and Hunter Mahan on Saturday. But his 2-and-1 loss to Charles Howell III in singles was surprising. Appleby can be streaky, but he has a solid game, so it's puzzling that he now has an abysmal 5-14-2 record in the Presidents Cup.
