The old TPC Sawgrass clubhouse, a contemporary design, was reduced to rubble within days of last year's Players. The new building, in Mediterranean Revival style, looks as if it's been there for 100 years. It's one of those Disneyesque miracles that pops out of the Florida swamps at the drop of a contract.
The Spanish-tile roof weighs 612,000 pounds as much, we are told, as two Boeing 747s or 300 African elephants but the stone columns are hollow. There's also nothing opaque about the view from the second-floor balcony; you can now see the full length of the 18th hole.
