A Look Back at the First FedEx Cup Season
A Man of the People
Woody Austin became a factor in the points race after he shot 62 in the final round to win the Stanford St. Jude Classic. It was his first win since 2004.
The 43-year-old, who didn't join the tour until he was 31, followed that with an explosive performance at the PGA Championship, and some equally explosive press conferences. After holing a 40-foot putt for a birdie on the 12th hole at Southern Hills, left, the crowd cheered, but Austin let them know he wanted to hear more.
"I wanted to hear them," he said afterward. "You always hear it for him [Woods]. And you hear it for yourself, but it's immensely different. So I wanted them to keep yelling for me. I wanted him to know that somebody else was out there because even on the front nine when I was playing so good, my roars were nothing like his." Austin finished second behind Woods and finished the season ranked 17th in the FedEx Cup standings.
