A Look Back at the First FedEx Cup Season
'Roid Rage
When the FedEx Cup was lacking in excitement, Gary Player stepped in with something new for players and fans to buzz about when he said he had firsthand knowledge of a golfer who had taken performance-enhancing drugs. "Whether it's HGH, whether it's Creatine or whether it's steroids, I know for a fact that some golfers are doing it," he told reporters at the British Open.
"I took an oath prior to him telling me I won't tell you where but he told me what he did, and I could see this massive change in him," Player said. "And somebody else told me something, that I also promised I wouldn't tell, that verified others had done it."
Many players questioned his claims, including Retief Goosen. "I'm actually very shocked at his comments. I don't know what Gary was trying to prove. I don't know if he is trying to damage the sport," Goosen said.
