"Yes, I know I spell it wrong." The man on the tractor is George Geraghty, and he's posing for SI photographer Bob Martin. George is one of Carne's greenkeepers, and he's quite likely a distant cousin of mine. On my first visit to the Mullet, in 1989, George's father pointed his cane at a bleak stretch of pasture on the far shore of Cross Lake, saying, "At one time, 27 Geraghtys lived over there." Now it's only George.
