10. Pacific Grove Golf Links, Pacific Grove, Calif. -- Locals call it the “Poor man’s Pebble Beach” -- an apt description, given its oceanside back nine, its proximity to Pebble and its price tag under $50 during the week. Pacific Grove’s pedestrian parkland front nine isn’t especially memorable, but it gives way to a stirring seaside back nine that includes ocean views, sand dunes and a lighthouse. All that’s missing is length, but coastal breezes make the course play much longer than its listed yardage. There are hundreds of munis that are tougher, but only a handful that are more fun.
