“Look good, play good.” It still has the ring of truth. Luckily, the looking-good part has never been easier. If you’re bored by the rigid standards of traditional golf apparel, you’re not alone. Today’s innovative offerings provide premium performance and comfort, along with the versatility to function off the course as well. It’s an exciting time to be dressed like a golfer. Are you ready for your makeover? Here are GOLF Magazine’s May covergirl Michelle Wie’s ultimate style tips.

1. My Look for the final round of the 2017 HSBC Women’s World Championship

“The collarless racerback top and short white skirt I wore that day caused some unexpected controversy. But even so, it’s one of my all-time favorite outfits. It made me feel athletic and strong.”

How To Be Chic
“Being stylish is less about what kind of clothes you’re wearing and more about how you wear them. A huge part of wearing your clothes well means being confident in your look, and that confidence comes primarily from comfort. When I see really stylish people and think, ‘Oh, that person looks cool,’ I’m typically referring much more to how they’re wearing their clothing than the specific pieces they have on. If you want to be stylish, comfort is key.”

2. My look for the third round of the 2018 U.S. Women’s Open

“I’ve always been passionate about bringing street style inside the ropes, and I did that when I accessorized a fun purple dress with a white belt. I loved that outfit because it helped me feel feminine and strong at the same time.”

Matching is Overrated
“The most fun thing about fashion is that anything goes—by and large, you get to make your own rules. If you feel confident with what you’re wearing, it doesn’t matter if the pieces don’t match in the traditional sense.”

3. My Look for every round at the 2016 ANA Inspiration

“I wore these leopard-print high-tops the entire week of a major championship and I loved every second of it. People went nuts. I’m pretty sure the shoes sold out in five minutes.”

Find Your Power Color
“If you’re determined to be stylish on a consistent basis, you’ve got to find the colors that work for you. You might discover that you look better in gray than in navy, or that yellow actually looks best. It’s just about finding what hues bring out your skin tone, your eye color, or just make you feel most comfortable and confident. I know a lot of people who feel like black is their power color, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Once you find your hue, stick with that palette and you’ll be golden.”

4. My Look for the final round of the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open

“I never would’ve paired two such bright colors together, but I’m glad I did because every time I look at photos from this amazing day I remember how awesome I felt in that outfit. Sometimes, taking chances pays off.”

Consider Fit and Fabric
“Two elements of style that are wildly underrated are fit and fabric. You can wear the most elegant piece of clothing, but if it doesn’t fit it simply will never look good. And you should invest a bit of time to find the kind of fabrics that work best for you. I love Nike Golf polos and skirts, for example, because they never wrinkle. And let’s face it, wrinkles are never acceptable.”
