Shinnecock Hills Golf Club -- Southampton, N.Y.
The clubhouse was the first building designed and built as a golf clubhouse in the United States. Its architect, Stanford White, of McKim, Meade and White, was perhaps better known for his social escapades. The clubhouse was a success, being expanded twice with design by the architect before he was shot in 1906 by Harry Kendall Thaw after White had an affair with Thaw's wife, actress Evelyn Nesbit.
