Take a Walk to Shape Your Shots

Monday October 29th, 2007

Former U.S. Open champion Ken Venturi said to hit a draw you should walk into your setup from behind and slightly to the left of the target—or from left to right.

From left of the target, you can visualize the ball starting down the right side of the fairway and turning back toward the center of the fairway. And as you walk in, your body will point right of the target, just where you want it aligned for a draw.

Conversely, to hit a fade, you should walk in from right to left. Visualize the ball starting down the left side of the fairway and then walk in with your body open, or aligned left of the target.

Try this approach the next time you want to shape the ball. Your alignment and visualization will improve, and you'll hit more fairways as a result.
