There will be a Woods at Pinehurst, just not the one golf fans might be used to seeing.
Tiger Woods withdrew from the 2014 U.S. Open on Wednesday, but his niece, Cheyenne, qualified for the U.S. Women's Open after posting 73-68 at a sectional qualifier in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Displaying a closing ability reminiscent of her of Uncle Tiger, Woods fired a back-nine 32 at the Country Club at DC Ranch to move into a tie for second, enough to qualify for her second U.S. Women's Open. Woods missed the cut in the 2012 event.
Woods has failed to make the cut in each of her three major appearances, but she grabbed her first professional win in February at the Australian Ladies Masters.
The U.S. Women's Open will be held June 19-22.
