MUNICH, Germany (AP) — Jose-Filipe Lima and Raphael Jacquelin shot 7-under 65s Thursday for a one-stroke lead after the rainy first round of the BMW International Open.
Lima missed six birdie putts of less than 20 feet on his final nine holes at the Munchen-Nord course.
Paul Broadhurst, Marc Farry and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano each shot 66s, and Ernie Els joined five players two strokes off the lead.
Jacquelin, who set a course record with a 62 in 2003, played after rain had softened the course.
Paul Casey (68) complained about the greens.
"They watered the greens during the pro-am on Wednesday when they knew it was going to rain today," said Casey, who finished tied for 10th last week at the U.S. Open.
Niclas Fasth (67) and Nick Dougherty (68) also played at Oakmont last week.
Farry, a 47-year-old Frenchman who has struggled in recent years, qualified for the tournament as the 1996 champion. If he finishes in the top 10, he'll get an automatic spot in next week's French Open.
