VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) — Long-hitting John Kimbell won the inaugural South Georgia Classic for his first Nationwide Tour victory, closing with a 3-under 69 in high wind Sunday for a one-stroke victory over Australia's Matthew Jones.

The 38-year-old Kimbell had a 10-under 278 total at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, the longest course in Nationwide Tour history at 7,781 yards. He earned $108,000 to jump from 52nd to second on the money list with $126,139.

``I always knew I could do this, but was starting to wonder if it would ever happen,'' Kimbell said. ``I couldn't be happier. It's unbelievable to win at this level.''

Jones finished with a 71. Jeff Klauk (71) and Chez Reavie (72) tied for third at 5 under, and Carlos Franco (73) was 4 under.
