Whether it’s for show, bragging rights or to leave a lasting impression on those around us—we all want to hit the long ball. For the players on the World Long Drive circuit, trying to hit a golf ball into another area code is a way to make a living.
For five summers of my life, Memorial Day weekend marked the unofficial start of the golf season. You see, I spent five summers working at Hampton Hills, a private country club located on the east end of Long Island, and that faithful weekend was when seasonal residents returned to their dream homes.
For “a show about nothing,” there was a lot of golf mixed in throughout the nine-season run. For that we can probably thank co-creator Larry David, a well-known golf-aholic, for continuing to put the game front and center.
