The Skill You Need

On delicate short chips you need to approach the ball on a shallower angle so that the clubface can "slide" under the ball and pop it forward.

How to Get It

In your office or living room, balance your driver shaft on top of two books as shown and place a ball underneath the center of the shaft. Try to chip the ball over the right edge of the forward book. If you topple the shaft in your takeaway or follow-through, your swing is too steep. Try to make the bottom of your swing arc (when you strike the ball) as long as possible, and swing the clubhead to the inside of the shaft both back and through.
