This story is for you if...

• You frequently pull short and midrange putts
• Your practice stroke feels smooth, but your actual stroke is jerky
• You can't control the speed of your putts

Check This!

Stand over the ball and get ready to putt. Is your putter resting on the ground? If it is you can't start your stroke without first lifting up the club. This causes you to jerk the club up and often pull it to the left through impact. It also robs you of the feel you developed with your practice strokes.

How to Make the Ones You Should

At address, brush the grass, not the ground, with your putter. Think of it this way: The grass grows on top of the ground and the ball sits on top of the grass, so you don't have to lift the putter to start your stroke. This will help you maintain the feel of the putt, and you'll drain a lot more makeable ones.
