The Old Way
Use your normal full-swing setup with your right shoulder lower than your left.

The New Way
Keep your shoulders level.

Why It's Better
Level shoulders allow your stroke to naturally descend into the ball, and the result will be solidly hit chips and pitches that nestle close to the hole.

How to Do It
Distribute your weight equally at address. (You can cheat a little to the left if you like, but lean only from the top, never from the bottom.) Stand so that a line running from your chin through your sternum meets the ground at a 90-degree angle. This setup makes it nearly impossible to ascend into impact and hit the shot thin or fat. If you want to keep the ball low, set your hands slightly forward of the ball; for a high shot your hands should be even or slightly behind the ball. However, your hands and body should look the same for all short shots — it's just the ball position that changes.
