At the Chrysler Classic of Tucson in February, I needed to one-putt the last green to tie the PGA Tour record for fewest putts in a 72-hole event. But I was a little bold with my first putt, a 50-footer. I ran it five feet past the hole, missed the comebacker and lost to Heath Slocum by a stroke.
That was a tough day, but it got me thinking: With such a hot putter, why didn't I win? The answer: I hit only 43 percent of the fairways. In fact, I'm hitting just 50 percent for the year. It's hard to win with a crooked driver, no matter how trusty your putter is.
