9. Pebble Beach vs. Augusta National

Ask any golfer which two U.S. courses are first on his bucket list, and it's often the same response: Augusta and Pebble. Pebble and Augusta.

America's dream seaside course (No. 4 in our latest world rankings) versus its mystical inland course (No. 3). But which is better?

Pebble sports Pacific views, sea lions and dramatic carries over crashing surf. Augusta offers a Crayola box of azaleas, soaring pines and nary a misplaced blade of grass.

To play Pebble, you need to convince your wife (admission is $495). To play Augusta, you need to convince a member (sorry, we don't know one either). I once teed it up at Pebble with a guy in flip-flops, and another time a seagull by the 12th tee swiped an oatmeal cookie out of my hand. Won't see that at Augusta.

As longtime CBS Golf producer Frank Chirkinian put it: "Nothing funny ever happens at Augusta. Dogs don't bark and babies don't cry. They wouldn't dare."
