On the previous pages, you saw how the wind can terrorize players at Carnoustie. But here's why: Most of the classic links courses play out and back: you play nine holes into the wind and nine holes with it at your back. If you can get your head around that, you can find a rhythm. Conversely, Carnoustie is shaped like a big "G," so the wind can attack from all directions. You can never get used to playing a knockdown shot or a high floater. You really have to think on every tee.
