In this installment of ClubTest 2010, we break down the pros and cons of 28 putters (blades to high-MOI mallets), listed at right.
To help your search, we recruited 26 Average Joes to test clubs at GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills, N.Y. Complementary testing was conducted at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Handicaps ranged from 3 to 20, split evenly between single-digit handicappers and double-digit players. They fell into three age groups: 20-39 years old, 40-49, and 50 or older.
We divided the putters into three categories: "High-MOI Mallet," "Midsize Mallet" and "Heel-Toe Weighted Blade." Individual testers tried all the putter models in a category and reported on Look, Feel and Distance Control. Each tester was assigned a unique putting sequence to balance any performance effects due to practice, learning, motivation or fatigue.
