In this installment of ClubTest 2010, we break down the pros and cons of nine wedges, listed at right.
To help your search, we recruited 26 Average Joes to test clubs at GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford Hills, N.Y. Handicaps ranged from 3 to 20, split evenly between single-digit handicappers and double-digit players. They fell into three age groups: 20-39 years old, 40-49, and 50 or older.
The GlenArbor Golf Club Short Game Center includes three putting greens (each one ran 10.5 on the Stimpmeter) with sand traps and chipping areas, plus a circular driving range for shots up to 115 yards.
Testers evaluated wedges from the rough, fairway and bunkers, and then hit chips to greens. (Manufacturers sent a full complement of loft/bounce options.) Panelists provided feedback on Look, Feel, Distance Control, Playability and Overall impressions.
