Harbour Town has been ranked as one of the top courses in the U.S. and the World by Golf Magazine's panel of experts.
With a lengthy roster of impressive tournament winners and a fistful of superb holes -- including the 18th, which runs alongside Calibogue Sound, with its iconic candy-cane-striped lighthouse -- Harbour Town should be your first stop on any trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Designed by Pete Dye, Harbour Town is death by a thousand cuts for those hitting the ball off line. The first 16 holes feature narrow fairways and tiny greens hemmed in by lagoons, oaks, pines and palmettos. The final two holes play alongside Calibogue Sound.
The pace of play can be achingly slow because of the numerous photo opportunities along the route, and the flat fairways and greens that are seldom in pristine condition outside of tournament time. (The course is home of the MCI Heritage, traditionally played the week after The Masters in April.)
