Private, 18 holes,
Durban Country Club has been ranked as one of the top courses in the World by Golf Magazine's panel of experts.
The combination of lush vegetation, sand dunes and stunning views of the Indian Ocean make this course one of the most unique, and remote, in all the world. At 6,644 yards, the course is not especially long but the wind seems to blow continuously, making club selection challenging.
The layout can be divided into two distinct types: the holes that run along the tops of the sand dune near the Ocean and those that are much more like parkland holes, franed by trees and mounds.
The 3rd hole, a 513-yard par 5, is the signature hole and requires players to hit their tee shot from the highest point on the course, completely exposing their drive into a valley to the gusts. Players must avoid the trees on the right of this straight-away hole, but also miss the large fairway bunker that sits in the landing area on the left. Large trees protect the green's left portion and the punish any shot hit too long as well. The par-4 18th can be driven by the longest hitters, but most players hit a hybrid or long iron and to leave a wedge shot into a severely undulated green.
