Resort,
18 holes,
$$$$$
Oak Point has gone through dramatic to enhancing both the quality of golf and the overall guest experience. Purchased in 1997 by the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Clyde Johnston's layout rests on former tomato and indigo plantation.
With its close proximity to the Kiawah River and the Haulover Creek, with its surrounding maritime forest, the fairways have a gentle roll and the greens offer plenty of challenge.
In 2004, under Johnson's watchful eyes, a major redesign was undertaken on the front nine. The third hole was completely abandon and the green on 1st hole was then pushed back approximately 130 yards to transform a 402-yard par-4 into 530-yard par 5 with the green guarded by water on three sides. A new 152-yard, par-3, 9th hole was added next to the new clubhouse.
Oak Point is meant to be a shotmaker’s course, with strategic thinking rewarded more often than power. If you are lucky, you see Atlantic bottlenose dolphins cruising the waters right outside the clubhouse, but even if you don't you'll certainly remember this Lowcountry gem.
