Designed by architects J. Inglis and Donald Ross, this relatively short course was built on hilly terrain, and golfers are encouraged to walk in order to take full advantage of the layout. Despite the length, the course at Aiken Golf Club is challenging for all skill levels. The sculpted, tree-lined fairways were hewn from rolling Carolina sandhills, and offer many challenging lies. The large, multilevel greens were all recontructed in 1999 to play very fast and they can be downright tricky. Hazards include ample use of waste areas and bunkers, while water comes into play on only one hole. Aiken Golf Club is also on the National Register of Historic Places. For additional information call the pro shop at (803) 649-6029 or visit the club online at aikengolfclub.com. Michael Bamberger has written about the course for GOLF.com.
