CURRENTLY THE SOUTH COURSE AT GRENELEFE IS CLOSED FOR PLAY.
This resort has three distinctly different eighteen hole courses. The East Course is shorter, straighter, and narrower than the other two courses. Since the fairways are undulating, the uneven lies will make this a shotmaker's course. The signature hole is #1, a 535-yard, par 5, because its tee box was built approximately fifty feet above the fairway, offering a scenic view of the green 500 yards away. The South Course was built on flat terrain and has wide fairways. There are numerous camouflaged sand bunkers and water hazards, so be sure to check your scorecard for advice on how to play these holes. This is more of a links-style course where you will be required to use every club in your bag. Due to creative undulations and mounding built into this course's greens, putting is very difficult. The West Course was built on soft rolling terrain, and the greens are small and well bunkered. Tall oak and pine trees border the fairways and often come into play if you hit an errant tee shot. At times, there are elevation changes of up to twenty feet throughout this course. The course is not difficult from the men's regular tee, since most of the hazards were designed with the back tees in mind. The signature hole is #6, a 388-yard, par 4, because it features a dogleg left fairway that curves around a lake and requires an uphill approach shot to a green that is protected by three bunkers. This course is perhaps best known for being the site of numerous tournaments including the finals for both the PGA and Senior PGA Tour's qualifying schools. The West Course was closed during most of the summer in 1997 to complete renovations on the tee boxes, bunkers and irrigation system. This resort offers the Ken Venturi Golf Academy that has many different programs available. Hotel guests can reserve tee times ninety days in advance.
