Teeth of the Dog
Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic
6,888 yards, par 72
Green fees: $95-$165 (plus tax), casadecampo.com.do

SERVICE
Once you leave the clubhouse, caddies clamor for your attention, and their friendly expertise makes them well worth the extra $25. The "snack shop" at the turn sells next to nothing, and drink carts are often nowhere to be found.

PACE OF PLAY
There's not much rough, and the tee sheet is rarely crowded, so you can play a relaxed round in four hours or less. If there's a backup on the course, chances are you've caused it by pausing to take in the scenery.

QUALITY
Location, location, location... Eight holes are cut so close to the coast you can dip your driver in the Caribbean. And the inland 10 aren't shabby either. Pete Dye was given prime real estate, and he didn't disappoint.

VALUE
Thirty-eight years after it opened, the Dog is still the king of Caribbean golf. In fact, it ranks pretty high against the rest of the world, too — but the great views and pristine conditions would cost twice as much almost anywhere else.

VERDICT
Let's see: You're on vacation, the first tee is a 5-iron from your hotel room, the greens are glassy, and the price is right. You can spend four hours playing golf or four hours on the beach. Como se dice "no brainer" en Espanol?
