Hi Joe,
A bunch of us here in Florida want to get together in the summer for golf, some cards and some good eats. We're all pretty good golfers. Any suggestions?
Marty Cohn, Miami Beach, Fla.

Beat the heat and fly to upstate New York and Turning Stone Resort & Casino (800-771-7711, turning-stone.com), 40 minutes east of Syracuse. Ten restaurants, plenty of poker, and golf packages (starting at $615 per person) that let you play all three of its top-tier courses make this a no-brainer. The Tom Fazio-designed Atunyote hosts a PGA Tour event in October, but the Rick Smith-authored Shenendoah is also a treat.

Dear Joe,
I am vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in June. Can you offer some suggestions on where to play?
Kevin J. Schwiger, Dimmitt, Texas.

The Currituck Club (252-453-9400, thecurrituckgolfclub.com; $90-$180), is a Rees Jones design that dishes out wetlands, sand dunes, maritime forests and views of Currituck Sound. Slightly more affordable, if not quite as strong, is Nags Head Golf Links (252-441-8073, nagsheadgolflinks.com; $80-$130) which features its own handsome vistas of Roanoke Sound. For either course, remember to pack a wind shirt — or two.
