No longer a pale imitation of Las Vegas for low-rollers and gambling grandmothers, Atlantic City has enjoyed a jackpot of terrific new golf courses in the past decade. That competition has kept prices in check, especially compared to Vegas, where three courses alone charge $500 a round. Five bills will get you an entire weekend in A.C. and still leave a little something for the slots.

WHERE TO PLAY

Seaview Marriott Resort & Spa, Galloway
Bay Course: 6,247 yards, par 71
Pines Course: 6,731 yards, par 71

WHY IT'S WORTH IT
Sam Snead won the 1942 PGA Championship here. The Bay layout is open and often buffeted by the sea breezes, while the Pines Course is longer, tighter and much tougher.

COST
May 1 through Oct. 16 you'll pay $99 weekdays and $129 on weekends. A good bet is the summer twilight rate: After 3 p.m. rounds start at just $59.

Twisted Dune Golf Club, Egg Harbor Township
7,384 yards, par 72

WHY IT'S WORTH IT
Faux links courses are as plentiful as busted straights, but Twisted Dune comes close to re-creating the real deal. This 6-year-old track unfolds over rumpled, treeless terrain marked with sand dunes.

COST
It's $85 before noon weekdays, $70 after noon and $60 after 3 p.m. Weekends cost $95, $ 80, and $65 respectively. Rates good through June 17.
