Golfers' Choice Awards: Resorts, Destinations and More

We asked and you answered. What are your favorite golf destinations, both in the U.S. and abroad? Your favorite hotels? Your favorite courses? Find out who reigns supreme at the first annual Golfers' Choice Awards.

Greater Sarasota, on Florida’s Gulf Coast, may lack the marquee value of its Atlantic Coast counterparts, but in the most-property-for-the-buck category, Sarasota is unmatched in the Sunshine State. The city also is full of superb golf options, led by The Concession, whose membership includes Paul Azinger, Gary Koch and Brittany Lincicome. Among the other must-plays in the area: the Ritz-Carlton Members Club, Longboat Key and TPC Prestancia. If you’re thinking about a move to Sarasota, here are three golf homes for three budgets.

The property: A regal circular driveway and lush tropical foliage welcome you into this 8,843-square-foot Georgian-style residence in the Oaks Bayside enclave. This stately, seven-bedroom home has six bathrooms and three half-baths and has recently undergone an extensive $1 million renovation. Large double mahogany doors open to a grand foyer that yields 22-foot ceilings with custom molding throughout. Among the highlights are a Brazilian cherry wood flooring, a renovated chef’s kitchen and a spacious bar area with a 150-bottle wine cooler. Other enticements include ample closet space and dressing areas in the two master suites and breathtaking sunset views of the Gulf of Mexico from the stone terrace.

The golf: The Oaks Bayside is a gated community located directly on the waters of Sarasota Bay with a community dock for residents use and is part of (and across the street from) the Oaks Club community. The private, member-owned Oaks Club offers two championship courses, Eagle and Heron, recently redesigned by Jason Straka of Fry/Straka Global Golf Design. The Heron course will reopen in November 2015 following a 15-month renovation.
