What do you do when you have tons of money, love golf and have land to spare in your backyard? Build a 3-hole golf course with some of the most famous holes in golf, obviously.
One of the world’s greatest soccer players is a golf aficionado, and he’s using some of his all-worldly salary to ensure he’ll always have a place to play. Gareth Bale of Real Madrid is reportedly building three holes on his property in South Wales, according to an interview he did with the Daily Express.
"At the moment, I’m obsessed with golf," says the 26-year-old midfielder.
This will not be your typical 3-hole track, either. According to the Express, they will be designed to match the 11th from Augusta National, the 17th from TPC Sawgrass and the "Postage Stamp" 8th hole at Royal Troon. Not a bad trio of short holes there.
If you love golf and make approximately $22.7 million a year, this is something you can afford to do. When he’s not on the pitch, Bale really, really enjoys playing golf. It provides him the privacy he seeks and so sparingly gets.
"I love the sport, I love the fact you can just get away from everything, be with your friends, and no one can come over to you on a golf course."
Especially when it's in your backyard.
