PGA Tour Players Defeat Wives in Dramatic Wiffle Ball Tournament
The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass has often been referred to as golf's fifth major. But after watching these post-game interviews from a wiffle ball game between Tour players and their wives, the wiffle ball tournament may have assumed that role.
The fourth annual event was held Tuesday night in St. Simons Island, Georgia, ahead of the RSM Classic this weekend. Also competing were students from nearby Altama Elementary School who were selected through a "Positive Behavior Initiative and Support program."
Despite lining up only 23 players in the field compared to the Tour Wives’ 29, the Tour players were able to come away with the victory thanks in large part to an extra-inning, game-winning run setup by this line drive from British Open champ Zach Johnson, who afterward said "This is the only win of my career ... this is Everest for me."
