Less than a month after announcing that he would resign from his position as Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner’s tenure officially ends Thursday, making the way for better, more fruitful endeavors—i.e. golf. And judging by his parting gifts, Boehner’s colleagues know him well.
According to the Washington Post, members of the House Republican Conference pitched in to buy Boehner a golf cart, a new set of clubs and a golf bag. The clubs and bag are great and all, but the cart, which will reportedly be sent to Boehner's new condo in Marco Island, Fla., is the real highlight. Check out the license plate.
The 65-year-old is an avid golfer and at one point carried a handicap of 8. His fondness for the game might be unmatched in the U.S. government, though Boehner and President Obama have played a number of rounds together, using time on the course to negotiate budget deals.
When asked about how golf fits in to his retirement plans, Boehner said, "Obviously it's going to be a part of it." Well, that's an understatement.
